Movie and Book Review Assignment Opinion Writing Lesson Grade 7/8

To have students begin to develop a tone within their text, I thought it would be fun to have students create reviews for their favourite movies or books. I initially have students complete the sketch note, where they can summarize the movie or book and begin considering their thoughts. This is a way to have students brainstorm and organize their thoughts before they begin writing their reviews. I included an outline for both the movie and the book review writing guide as there are a few minor differences. This lesson is specifically directed at D2.3 of the Ontario Language Curriculum. I included a marking check brick so that you can easily mark student work. This product includes everything you need to teach students how to write reviews and maintain a consistent tone throughout writing.
