This resource is a way to have students learn to research and find sources that are credible and reliable. I have provided an outline where students choose a current news article to analyze. Students will then have to research the author and publication, identify facts and opinions presented, look for possibly bias, misinformation and disinformation. Once students have thoroughly deconstructed and analyzed the article, they will then decide if the article is credible or unreliable. This is a great starting point to introduce my Formal Debate project! This outline is aimed to fulfill A2.3 of the Ontario Language Curriculum. I have included a check brick so that you can easily mark their work. This outline is classroom ready so that you can save time planning!
