Comparing Unit Rates To Find The Best Value- Grade 5/6 Financial Literacy

These worksheets will help you teach your students how to compare different unit rates to identify the best deals while shopping. I included 2 thought provoking questions that will help you engage students thinking. Then students will learn the mathematical approach to identifying the best deal. In this workbook I have included two different approaches to comparing unit rates, one that includes a more mathematical approach, and one that involves students comparing small fractions. I did this so that you can provide students with the way that makes the most sense to them. Before students work on this activity though they should have a good understanding of decimals and how to compare decimals. Once students learn how to approach this type of question, I have included word problems for them to work through that gradually become more difficult. I then included a real world scenario where students will break down a receipt to identify the best deal. I also created a research activity to help students learn to search flyers and find the best deals for products from different stores. I also made sure to include a full answer key to help you save time.
